Born in Hull, England, she arrived in Canada in 1937 and following her secondary education, she studied at the Ontario College of Art, Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and at Goddard College in Vermont. After graduating with her M.A., she continued with a self-study course. Working in water colours, oils and mixed media, she became known for her representational landscapes, abstract and non-objective work. She achieves a delicacy in her water colours that is found in the finest of asian landscape painting. This is especially true of her work done during a trip to the Queen Charlotte Islands, where she captured the sense of mystery that prevails in the majestic landscape often partially shrouded in mist.
