Each summer for the past several years I’ve been drawn to the ocean on the east coast. The Maine coastline is a particular favourite. You can stand in the same spot from one day to the next and the lighting can change so dramatically that you feel like you’re in an entirely new place. I’ve been studying all the elements that make the coastal scenes for some time, waves and skies in particular.
My latest work allows the viewer to focus on the forceful nature, stunning colours and emotional impact of the sky. Some people only want to see a painting that is truly representational. What I’m attempting to do, is to provide a painting that tells you something beyond what you already know.
My work is held in private and corporate collections throughout Canada, United States, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. In 2018, I was awarded my “Master Pastelist” designation from the Pastel Artists Of Canada. I work as a full-time artist in my studio in Guelph, On and teach workshops in pastel and oil painting.
I paint things that are important to me. Things that have an impact on my life, like my family, my history, and the landscape around me. I've lived in Ontario, Britain, and Quebec, and these places and experiences come out in different ways in the work that I do. Regardless of my subject matter or medium, I strive to create an atmosphere and mood in each piece that viewers can connect with.
I work from my own studio in Guelph and teach courses in both painting and dry pastel. My work is held in private and corporate collections throughout Canada, United States, Austalia and NewZealand. I also show my work in several galleries in Toronto, Oakville, Waterloo and in Guelph.
